**Brief Commentary**

• We begin this dhikr by saying ‘Subḥānallāh’, a phrase which glorifies Allah through negating any deficiencies in Him.

• We follow this up by saying ‘wa bi-Ḥamdih’. Through this phrase, we praise Allah in a complete manner which encompasses praising Him for (1) all His perfect qualities, and (2) for all His blessings which He showers upon us.

• We then combine the tasbīḥ and ḥamd with four phrases ― each one increasing the magnitude of this tasbīh and hamd in terms of: (1) quantity (2) quality and (3) weight.

**“As numerous as all He has created”**

• When we say we glorify Allah and praise Him by the quantity of His creation, we are not saying that we are praising Allah this many times, as it is inconceivable that someone can say I am praising Allah x number of times without actually doing so an x number of times. Rather we are saying that **He deserves to be glorified and praised in this quantity and more**, because His creation is constantly increasing. In other words, He deserves to be glorified and praised an infinite number of times.

**“(As vast) as His pleasure”**

• “(As vast) as His pleasure” refers to the quality of the praise. We are praising Allah not only by an amount (quantity) befitting Him, but also in a manner pleasing to Him (quality).

• Allah is the Most Noble, and He only accepts and is pleased with good things. Therefore, when we glorify Allah and praise Him by His pleasure, we are saying that **He deserves to be glorified and praised in the best manner possible** as He is only pleased with that which is good.

**“(As limitless) as the weight of His Throne”**

• As the Throne of Allah is the heaviest and greatest of Allah’s creation, we are saying that Allah deserves the largest and weightiest form of glorification and praise.

• The Prophet ﷺ said, “The heavens (universe) in comparison to the footstool (Kursī) are but like a ring in an empty desert; and the example of the footstool (Kursī) in comparison to the Throne of Allah is like this ring in the empty desert” (Ibn Ḥibbān 361).

**“(As endless) as the ink of His words”**

• “As numerous as all He has created” dealt with the quantity of this praise; “(As vast) as His pleasure” dealt with the quality of this praise; and “(As limitless) as the weight of His Throne” dealt with the weight of this praise, so Allah deserves to be glorified and praised in the largest, best way possible, an infinite number of times.

• The “(As endless) as the ink of His words” encompasses all three aspects as Allah’s words are infinite, they are the best of words, and they carry the most weight. Allah describes their greatness in the Qur’ān: “If all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), refilled by seven other oceans, the Words of Allah would not be exhausted. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise” (31:27).

**Action Points**

• This particular dhikr is very short yet carries immense rewards. Although Juwayriyah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhā) was remembering Allah for a long duration, the Prophet ﷺ said this one dhikr outweighed everything she had said. The difference between the two is that this dhikr powerfully highlights the greatness that Allah deserves. It opens up the heart to contemplate over Allah, through His Attributes, Words, Creation, and specifically His Throne. This deep reflection enables the dhikr to emanate not only from the tongue but also from the depths of the heart.

• The more present your heart is when remembering Allah, the greater the reward will be.

• Never miss out saying this dhikr three times every morning, and ensure you always say it with contemplation to maximise the rewards and benefits you receive. Feel awe in your heart as you praise the Lord of the Throne and the worlds.

• This ḥadīth teaches us the importance of why we should hold on tightly to the Sunnah adhkār. Juwayriyah (radiyallahu ʿanhā) remembered Allah for a long duration, but the four phrases specified by the Prophet ﷺ would ensure far greater reward than the dhikr she had been engaged in all morning, even though they require much less time to utter.
• نبدأ هذا الذِّكر بقول: «سُبْحَانَ الله»، وهي كلمة تُنَزِّه اللهَ تعالى عن كل نقص، وتُثبِت له كمالَه المطلق.
• ثم نتبعها بقول: «وَبِحَمْدِهِ»؛ وبها نُثني على الله ثناءً كاملًا يشمل:
(1) الثناء على صفاته الكاملة،
و(2) الثناء على نعمه التي يغمرنا بها.
• ثم نضمّ التسبيح والحمد إلى أربع عبارات عظيمة — كل واحدة منها تزيد هذا التسبيح وهذا الحمد في:
(1) الكمّ،
(2) الكيف،
(3) والثِّقل.
«عددَ خلقِه»
• حين نقول إننا نسبّح الله ونحمده «بعدد خلقه»، فنحن لا نقصد أننا نكرّر الذكر فعلًا بعدد مخلوقاته — إذ هذا مستحيل — بل نقصد:
أن الله يستحق أن يُسبَّح ويُحمَد بهذا العدد وأكثر، لأن خلقه يتزايد بلا حدود.
أي إنه يستحق تسبيحًا وحمدًا لا نهاية لهما.
«ورِضا نفسِه»
• تعبير «ورِضا نفسه» يشير إلى جودة هذا الحمد.
فنحن لا نحمد الله فقط بكمّ هائل، بل بصورةٍ ترضيه وتوافق ما يحبّه تعالى.
• والله تعالى كريمٌ لا يقبل إلا الطيب.
فحين نحمده «برِضا نفسه»، فكأننا نقول:
إنه يستحق أن يُسبَّح ويُحمَد بأفضل صورة يمكن تصورها.
«وزِنةَ عرشِه»
• لما كان العرشُ أعظمَ المخلوقات وأثقلها، فنحن نقرّ بأن الله يستحق أعظمَ وأثقلَ ما يمكن من التسبيح والحمد.
• قال ﷺ:
«ما السَّماواتُ السَّبعُ في الكُرسيِّ إلا كحلقةٍ مُلقاةٍ في فَلاةٍ من الأرض، وفضلُ العرشِ على الكرسيِّ كفضلِ تلك الفلاةِ على تلك الحلقة» (ابن حبّان).
«ومِدادَ كَلِماتِه»
• لقد دلَّ «عددُ خلقه» على الكمّ،
و«رِضا نفسه» على الكيف،
و«زِنة عرشه» على الثِّقل؛
فكان لابد من عبارةٍ تجمع الثلاثة. وذلك هو: «ومِداد كلماتِه».
• فكلماتُ الله لا تنفد، وهي أحسن الكلمات، وأثقلها وزنًا.
قال تعالى:
﴿ولو أنما في الأرض من شجرةٍ أقلامٌ والبحرُ يمدُّه من بعدِه سبعةُ أبحرٍ ما نَفِدَت كلماتُ الله﴾ (لقمان: 27).
• فهذه الجملة تعني:
أن الله يستحق حمدًا وتسبيحًا لا ينتهي، بأعلى درجات الكمال، وبأعظم وزنٍ يمكن أن يُتصوَّر.

نقاط عمل
• هذا الذكر — على قِصَرِه — ذو فضلٍ عظيم. فقد كانت جويرية (رضي الله عنها) تذكر الله زمنًا طويلًا، ومع ذلك أخبرها النبي ﷺ أن هذا الذكر الواحد يفوق كل ما قالته طوال الصباح.
والفرق أن هذا الذكر يُظهِر عظمة الله التي يستحقها، ويُفتح به القلب للتفكر في صفات الله، وكلماته، وخلقه، وعرشه العظيم.
ومتى تفكّر القلب، خرج الذكر من أعماق القلب لا من مجرد حركة اللسان.
• كلما كان قلبك حاضرًا عند ذكر الله، عظم أجرُك.
• لا تترك هذا الذكر ثلاث مرات صباحًا — مع حضور القلب — لتنال أعظم الخير.
ولتشعر بالخشوع والرّهبة وأنت تُثني على ربِّ العرش وربِّ العالمين.
• يُعلّمنا هذا الحديث أهمية التمسّك بأذكار السنة. فمع أن جويرية (رضي الله عنها) أطالت الذكر، إلا أن هذه الكلمات الأربع التي علّمها النبي ﷺ تُعطي أجرًا أعظم بكثير، رغم أنها سهلةٌ وقليلةُ الوقت.

**Brief Commentary**

• Seeking forgiveness is an essential part of the believer’s life. The Prophet ﷺ — **despite being the best of men and forgiven by Allah** — would constantly seek Allah’s forgiveness throughout the day and night. Abū Hurayrah (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) said, “I did not see anyone utter أستغفر الله وأتوب إليه more frequently than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ” (Ibn Ḥibbān). If this was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then how much more are we in need of seeking constant forgiveness.

• All of us are sinful. We commit sins and don’t even realise how we are suffering from their consequences.

• Sins take us far away from Allah and incur His **anger** and punishment. Sins remove blessings, and **weaken the heart** and the body. Sins deprive us from doing good deeds, prevent our duʿās from being accepted, result in a horrible death and lead to suffering in the hereafter.

• Sins can seal the heart to the extent that one’s heart becomes numb and no longer accepts any reminder or any form of good. This can lead to one becoming desensitised and not considering a sin as a sin.

• For the heart to be healthy and happy, it needs Allah. Even if one is not sinning, being absorbed in worldly matters makes a person distant from Allah. This leads to a thin layer forming around the heart. If a person continues like this, and does not remember Allah and do istighfār, he will remain imprisoned in the clutches of the world and Shaytan. The layer will become thicker, and **the heart will become hard**. It may eventually even lead to the death of the heart. Therefore, turning back to Allah with sincere repentance and istighfār is of paramount importance.

• Ibn al-Jawzī (raḥimahullāh) writes, “Sins are like a chain around the neck of the sinner. One can only be released from it through istighfār (seeking forgiveness) and tawbah (repentance).”

**Action Points**

• Make istighfār a constant part of your daily routine.

• Be **sincere** and **mindful** when seeking forgiveness. Seeking forgiveness is not merely about saying ‘astaghfirullah’ with the tongue. Sometimes we may utter ‘astaghfirullah’ with our tongues a hundred times in the morning, but the utterance is **mindless and hollow**. As long as we reach the 100 mark in the tasbīḥ counter, we feel satisfied that we have completed the task.

• Whilst uttering ‘astaghfirullah’, **think** about your sins, and **feel shame** and remorse. Sincerely apologise to Allah, and make a firm commitment to not repeat that sin.

• Just as you make istighfār for your sins, you should also ask Allah to **forgive the deficiencies in your worship and good deeds**. We can never fulfil the rights of Allah, and we can never worship Him as He deserves to be worshipped.

• Allah is always ready to forgive, so never lose hope, and no matter what you may have done, turn to Him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Indeed Allah – Exalted and Majestic is He – stretches out His Hand at night to accept the repentance of those who sin in the day; and He stretches out His Hand in the day to accept the repentance of those who sin at night — (He will do this) until the sun rises from the west” (Muslim).

• Likewise, in a ḥadīth qudsī, Allah says, “O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins — so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you” (Muslim).

• Always begin and end your day with tawbah and istighfār, as you don’t know when death is round the corner. Prepare yourself to meet Allah by cleansing yourself from your sins.
• الاستغفار ركنٌ أساسيٌّ من أركان حياة المؤمن. فالنبي ﷺ - مع كونه خيرَ البشرِ وغفرَ اللهُ له – كان يستغفرُ اللهَ دائمًا في ليلهِ ونهاره.. قال أبو هريرة (رضي الله عنه):
«ما رأيتُ أحدًا أكثرَ أن يقول: أستغفرُ اللهَ وأتوبُ إليه من رسولِ الله ﷺ» (ابن حبّان).
فإذا كان هذا حالُ رسولِ الله ﷺ، فكيف بحالنا نحن الضعفاء المذنبين؟
• كلُّنا خطاؤون. نرتكب الذنوبَ دون أن ندرك عواقبها.
• الذنوب تُبعِدُ العبدَ عن الله، وتجرّ عليه سخطه وعقوبته. الذنوب تُذهِب البركة، وتُضعف القلب والبدن، وتحرم العبد من الطاعات، وتمنع قبول الدعاء، وتسوق إلى سوء الخاتمة، وتورِث العذاب في الآخرة.
• الذنوب قد تُغلّف القلب حتى يصبح قاسيًا لا يتأثر بموعظة ولا يقبل خيرًا. وقد يصل الأمر بالشخص إلى أن يصبح غير مستشعر أصلًا أن ما يفعله ذنب.
• ولـكي يكون القلبُ حيًا مطمئنًا، فهو يحتاج إلى الله دائمًا. وحتى إن لم يكن الإنسانُ واقعًا في الذنوب، فإن الانغماس في الدنيا يشغل القلب ويُبعِده عن الله. هذا الانشغال يكوّن طبقةً رقيقة حول القلب؛ فإذا استمرّ العبد على هذا الحال دون ذكرٍ لله ولا استغفار، سيبقى أسيرا في قبضة الدنيا والشيطان، وتزداد تلك الطبقة سُمكًا حتى يقسو القلب. وقد يصل الأمر — والعياذ بالله — إلى موت القلب.
ولذلك كانت العودة إلى الله بالتوبة الصادقة والاستغفار أمرًا في غاية الأهمية، فالذنوب كالسلسلة في عُنق صاحبها؛ ولا يُفَكّ قيدُه إلا بالاستغفار والتوبة.

نقاط عمل
• اجعل الاستغفار عادة دائمة في يومك.
• كن صادقًا وواعيًا عن طلب المغفرة. فليس الاستغفار مجرد قول «أستغفر الله» باللسان. فقد يقول أحدنا في اليوم مئة مرة «أستغفر الله»، بينما لسانه يرددها وقلبه غافلٌ لا يشعر بشيء. نكتفي بالعدد، فنظن أننا أدّينا ما علينا، بينما حقيقةُ الاستغفار غائبة.
• عند قولك: «أستغفرُ الله»، استحضر ذنوبك، واشعر بالخجل والندم. اعتذر إلى الله بصدق، واعقد العزم على ترك الذنب وعدم العودة إليه.
• كما تستغفر من ذنوبك، ينبغي أن تسأل الله أن يغفر تقصيرك في عبادتك؛ فمهما عملنا من الطاعات، فإننا لا نؤدي حقَّ الله، ولا نستطيع أن نعبده حق عبادته.
• الله يقبل التوبة ويغفر دائمًا، فلا تيأس مهما عظُم ذنبك. قال رسول الله ﷺ:
«إنَّ اللهَ يبسطُ يدَهُ بالليلِ ليتوبَ مسيءُ النهار، ويبسطُ يدَهُ بالنهار ليتوبَ مسيءُ الليل…» (مسلم).
• وفي الحديث القدسي يقول الله تعالى:
«يا عبادي، إنكم تُخطِئون بالليل والنهار، وأنا أغفر الذنوبَ جميعًا؛ فاستغفروني أغفرْ لكم» (مسلم).
• ابدأ يومك واختمْه دائمًا بتوبةٍ واستغفار؛ فأنت لا تعلم متى يحين الموت. فطهّر قلبك من الذنوب، واستعدّ للقاء الله.

**Brief Commentary**

• Sending abundant ṣalawāt upon the Messenger ﷺ is a manifestation of our love, reverence and obedience to him. We can never repay the Prophet ﷺ for what he did for us. Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) writes, “If a person was to send ṣalawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ equivalent to his every breath, he will still not have fulfilled his right.”

• Allah ﷻ Himself sends ṣalāh on our beloved Prophet ﷺ, and so do His Angels. Allah ﷻ says, “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings (ṣalāh) to the Prophet. O you who believe, invoke ṣalāh upon him, and send your salām (prayer for his being in peace) to him in abundance” (33:56).

• Sending ṣalawāt has immense blessings and rewards. These include: When you send ṣalāh on the Prophet ﷺ once, Allah sends 10 ṣalāhs upon you. Likewise, Allah records ten good deeds for you, erases ten sins from you, and raises you ten degrees in status. Through the blessings of the ṣalawāt, your needs are sufficed and your sins are forgiven.

**The Best Wording For Salawat**

The best wording for the ṣalawāt is the ṣalāh ibrāhimiyyah:

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلَىٰ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَىٰ اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلَىٰ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَىٰ اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ
O Allah, honour and have mercy upon Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad as You have honoured and had mercy upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm, indeed, You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious. O Allah, bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad as You have blessed Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm, indeed, You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious (Bukhārī).

**اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ [O Allah, honour and have mercy]**, O Allah, have mercy upon Muḥammad and praise him in the **lofty assembly**. The ‘lofty assembly’ refers to the elite angels who are close to Allah ﷻ.

Salāh also means ‘honour him’ i.e. honour him in the world by elevating his mention, **granting victory to his dīn** and preserving his sharī‘ah; and honour him in the hereafter by rewarding him abundantly, accepting his **intercession** on behalf of his ummah and granting him the **loftiest station of glory** (maqām mahmūd).

**وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ**** [And upon the family of Muḥammad ﷺ]**, This phrase could be a reference to, (1) His family (2) His followers. By invoking ṣalāh on his followers, you are honouring the Messenger ﷺ by honouring those who are dear to him.

**بَارِكْ [Bless]**, Bārik is derived from barakah, and linguistically has two meanings, (1) to be firm and continuous and (2) to grow and increase. Thus, it is similar to stating, “O Allah continue to bless and honour Muḥammad ﷺ and his followers. Increase him and his followers in every form of good. Bless him in the mission that he came with and make his legacy universal.”

**حَمِيْدٌ [The Most Praiseworthy]**, Allah ﷻ is worthy of all praise in His Essence, His Attributes and His Actions. He also praises His praiseworthy slaves. One of His greatest blessings is that He allowed His creation to praise Him.

**مَّجِيْدٌ [The Most Glorious]**, His glory and greatness know no ends. He is the Most Generous and bestows endless favours. He is Noble and Exalted. The glory of Allah ﷻ refers to His beautiful actions combined with nobility.

**Why Do the Salawat End With These Two Specific Names?**

In asking Allah (ʿazza wa jall) to bestow ‘ṣalawāt’ on His beloved ﷺ, you ask Him to praise him, honour him, and elevate his mention. Thus, it is befitting that you ask ‘al-Ḥamīd’ (The Most Praiseworthy) and ‘al-Majīd’ (The Most Glorious) – the real and ultimate source of praise and glory – to increase the Messenger ﷺ in praise and glory.

**Action Points**
• Realise that all the good deeds you do in this world and all the good you will receive in the hereafter is due to the Prophet ﷺ conveying his message to mankind. Thus, you owe it all to him and are indebted to him ﷺ.

• On the Day of Judgement, when humanity will be distraught, utterly terrified and thirsty, you will be desperate to receive the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ. Recite this dhikr every morning and evening so that you will be fortunate enough to receive **his intercession** inshaAllah.

• Sending ṣalawāt ten times in the morning and the evening is the minimum amount. Try to exceed this number on a daily basis, especially on Friday. If you want to be close to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, then send as much ṣalawāt as possible, as he ﷺ told us that the closest of people to him on the Day of Judgement will be those who send the most ṣalawāt upon him.

• Read up on the biography of the Prophet ﷺ .This will increase the **love** and **respect** you have for him ﷺ, and will allow you to recite the ṣalawāt with a **present heart**.
• إن الإكثار من الصلاة على النبي ﷺ هو مظهرٌ من مظاهر محبتنا وتعظيمنا وطاعتنا له. ولن نستطيع أبدًا أن نوفّي النبي ﷺ حقَّه وما قدّمه لنا.
• الله ﷻ نفسه يصلّي على نبيّنا ﷺ، وكذلك تفعل الملائكة. قال تعالى:
﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا﴾ (الأحزاب: 56).
• للصلاة على النبي ﷺ بركات عظيمة وثواب كبير. فمن صلّى على النبي ﷺ مرة واحدة، صلّى الله عليه بها عشر مرات، وكتب له عشر حسنات، ومحا عنه عشر سيئات، ورفعه عشر درجات. ومن بركات الصلاة عليه ﷺ أن الله يكفيه همومه، ويغفر ذنوبه.
أفضل صيغة للصلاة على النبي ﷺ
أفضل صيغة هي الصلاة الإبراهيمية:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلَىٰ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَىٰ اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلَىٰ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَىٰ اٰلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ
أي: اللهم اشمل محمدًا ﷺ بعطفك ورحمتك، وأثنِ عليه في الملأ الأعلى.
و"الملأ الأعلى" هم الملائكة المقرّبون عند الله.
وكلمة الصلاة تتضمن أيضًا معنى:
«اللهم عَزِّز ذكره في الدنيا، وانصر دينه، واحفظ شريعته؛ وعزِّزه في الآخرة بالثواب الجزيل، وقبول الشفاعة، ورفعة المقام المحمود».
وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
قد تشمل:
1. أهل بيته ﷺ
2. أتباعه وأمته.
والصلاة على أتباعه تعظيم له ﷺ؛ لأن تكريم أحبابه تكريمٌ له.
بَارِكْ
"بارك" مأخوذة من البركة، ومعناها لغويًا:
1. الثبوت والدوام
2. الزيادة والنماء.
فالمعنى:
«اللهم اجعل بركتك على محمد ﷺ وآله دائمةً متزايدة. زدْه وزدْ أمته في كل خير. وبارك رسالته، واجعل أثر دعوته ممتدًا في العالم».
حَمِيدٌ
أي: المستحق لكل حمد في ذاته وصفاته وأفعاله. وهو الذي يثني على عباده الصالحين، ومن أعظم نعمه أنه علّم خلقه كيف يحمدونه.
مَجِيدٌ
أي: العظيم الجليل الذي لا حدّ لمجده، الكريم كثير العطاء، ذو الشرف والعلو. ومجده يشمل جمال فعله وكمال كرمه.
لماذا تختتم الصلوات بهذين الاسمين بالذات؟
لأننا عندما نسأل الله أن يُكثر صلاته على نبيه ﷺ — أي أن يُعلي ذكره ويزيده تشريفًا — فإن أنسب من يُسأل ذلك هو:
الحَمِيد (مصدر كل حمد)، و المَجِيد (مصدر كل مجد)؛
فهما أكمل الأسماء المناسبة لزيادة النبي ﷺ رفعةً وشرفًا.

نقاط عمل
• تذكر أن كل خير تعمله في الدنيا، وكل خير تناله في الآخرة، هو بسبب ما بلّغنا إياه النبي ﷺ من الهداية. فأنت مدين له مدى الحياة.
• في يوم القيامة، حين يفزع الناس، ويغمرهم الخوف والعطش، سيشتدّ شوقك إلى شفاعة النبي ﷺ. فداوم على هذا الذكر صباحًا ومساءً لعلّك تكون من أهل الشفاعة بإذن الله.
• الحدّ الأدنى من الصلاة عليه ﷺ صباحًا ومساءً هو عشر مرات. لكن اجتهد في الإكثار منها، خصوصًا يوم الجمعة. فالمقرَّبون من النبي ﷺ يوم القيامة هم أكثر الناس صلاةً عليه في الدنيا.
• اقرأ سيرة النبي ﷺ؛ فإن معرفته تزيدك حبًا و تعظيمًا، وتجعل صلاتك عليه أصدق وأحضر في القلب.

**Brief Commentary**

• **سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ** means to glorify Allah above any imperfection or deficiency i.e. **Allah is free from all defects**. Allah is the Most Glorified who has no partner or rival, who possesses every aspect of perfection, and whose actions are pure and free from evil.

**The entire universe** - including the angels, the mountains, and trees - praises and glorifies Allah. Allah says, “The seven heavens, the earth, and all those in them glorify Him. There is not a single thing that does not glorify His praises—but you cannot comprehend their glorification. He is indeed Most Forbearing, All-Forgiving” (17:44).

• **اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ** is an expression that encompasses both:

(1) **Gratitude** for what Allah has blessed us with e.g. īmān, life, health.

(2) **Praise**: Allah is worthy of every possible praise on account of His very existence, His mercy, beauty, generosity and all of His other noble Attributes and Names. All of His Attributes are perfect; be they of His majesty (jalāl) or beauty (jamāl). **Even if none of His slaves praised Him, He would still be worthy of all praise**.

Our praise of Him emanates from our **love** and **reverence** of Him. Our praise of Him is, in fact, a blessing from Him which **deserves even more praise**. Even if we were to spend our entire life praising Him, this would be insufficient. Whilst uttering **اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ**, we should **reflect on the blessings of Allah** and **His Perfect Names**.

• **اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ** means ‘Allah is Greater than…’ By not specifying what He is Greater than, we are saying that **He is Greater than everything**. Allah is Greater than anything we can imagine, and His greatness encompasses all things: He is Great in His Essence, His Names, His Attributes and His Actions. Allah is Supreme and Transcendent above every limitation and deficiency that is inherent in created beings.

**Our limited minds are unable to comprehend the Greatness of Allah**. However we can attempt to appreciate His Greatness by pondering over His creation. When we ponder on the greatness of Allah’s creation such as the heavens, the earth, His Kursī and His Majestic Throne, and then realise our own inability to comprehend them due to their greatness, we arrive at the most important realisation: how Great must their Creator be!

**Action Points**

• Always repeat these three powerful statements, with the presence of your heart. Reflect on their meanings, and feel your love and awe of Allah increase.

• Don’t belittle deeds due to their ease, as simple statements can be a reason for you to have immense rewards.

سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ (tasbīḥ), اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ (taḥmīd), and اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ (takbīr) are amongst the **most beloved statements to Allah**. Though **easy to utter** with our tongues, on the Day of Judgement, they will be **heavy on the scales**. They wipe away sins and lead to unparalleled reward. They cultivate the trees and plants of Paradise, and are a protection from the Hell-Fire.

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “I met Ibrāhīm (ʿalayhi s-salām) on the Night of al-Isrā’ (the Night Journey), and he said to me, ‘O Muḥammad, convey my greetings to your ummah, and tell them that Paradise has pure soil and sweet water, and it is a flat treeless plain. Its **plants** are: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَر. ’”

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Indeed what you remember of Allah’s Glory (by uttering) tasbīḥ, takbīr, tahlīl and taḥmīd, gather around the Throne of Allah, **buzzing like bees, mentioning to Allah the person** who uttered them. Do you not wish to have someone who mentions you by Him?” (Ibn Mājah).
• «سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ» تعني تنزيه الله عمّا لا يليق به من نقص أو عيب، فهو سبحانه الكامل من كل وجه، الذي لا شريك له ولا ندّ، والمتصف بجميع صفات الكمال، وأفعاله كلها حقّ، وخالية من الظلم والشر.
الكون كله — بما فيه الملائكة والجبال والأشجار — يسبّح الله ويُمجِّده. قال تعالى:
﴿تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ، وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ، وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ، إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا﴾ (الإسراء: 44).
• «اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ» كلمة تجمع بين أمرين:
(1) الشُّكر على ما أنعم الله به علينا؛ مثل نعمة الإيمان، والحياة، والصحة.
(2) الثناء: فالله مستحق لكل ثناء ممكن، بذاته وصفاته؛ لرحمته وجماله وجوده، وسائر أسمائه الحسنى وصفاته الكاملة. وصفاته كلها كاملة، سواء كانت صفات جلال أو صفات جمال. ولو لم يحمده أحد من خلقه، لبقي مستحقًّا لكل حمد.
وحمدنا لله نابع من محبتنا وإجلالنا له، بل هو نعمة منه تستحق حمدًا أعظم. ولو قضينا أعمارنا في حمده لما كفى. ينبغي لنا عند نطقنا بـ «اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ» أن نتأمل في نعم الله وأسمائه الحسنى.
• «اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ» تعني: «الله أعظم من…»، وحذف المتعلَّق يعني: الله أكبر من كل شيء. فهو أكبر مما نتصوره أو نبلغه بعقولنا. عظمته تشمل كل شيء: عظمة ذاته، وأسمائه، وصفاته، وأفعاله.
عقولنا المحدودة غير قادرة على الإحاطة بعظمة الله. لكن يمكننا التعرف إلى شيء عظمته عبر التأمل في مخلوقاته. فعندما نتفكر في عظمة خلق السماوات والأرض والكرسي والعرش العظيم، ثم ندرك عجز عقولنا عن استيعاب هذا الخلق الهائل، نصل إلى النتيجة الأعظم: فكيف بعظمة خالقها سبحانه!

نقاط العمل
ردد هذه العبارات الثلاث المؤثرة دائمًا، بحضور قلبك. تأمل معانيها، واشعر بزيادة حبك لله وخشوعك له.
• لا تستهن بالأعمال لسهولة القيام بها، فالكلمات اليسيرة قد تكون سبباً في حصولك على ثواب عظيم.
سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ (التسبيح)، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ (التحميد)، واَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ (التكبير)، من أحبّ الكلمات إلى الله. وهي — مع سهولة نطقها — ثقيلة في الميزان يوم القيامة. تمحو الذنوب، وتورث أجرًا لا يُقارن. وتغرس أشجار الجنة ونباتها، وتكون حماية من النار.
• قال رسول الله ﷺ:
«لقيتُ إبراهيم ليلة أُسري بي، فقال: يا محمد، أقرِئ أمتك السلام، وأخبرهم أن الجنة طيبة التربة، عذبة الماء، وأنها قيعان، وأن غراسها:
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ». (الترمذي).
• وقال رسول الله ﷺ:
« إن مما تذكرون من جلال الله التسبيحَ، والتهليلَ، والتحميدَ يَنْعَطِفْنَ حولَ العرش، لهن دويٌّ ‌كَدَويِّ ‌النحل، تُذَكِّرُ بصاحبها، أَمَا يُحِبُّ أحدُكم أن يكون له أو لا يَزال له من يُذَكِّر به؟ » (ابن ماجه).

**Brief Commentary**

• This dhikr begins with the statement of tawḥīd, which is the greatest statement to make as it affirms the greatest truth: the Oneness of Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā).

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is:

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ” (Muwaṭṭa’).

• When we say this dhikr, we affirm that Allah alone deserves to be worshipped. It means to be a slave of Allah alone, and not of any other being, ideology, object or desire. With it, we profess Allah’s Lordship over all creation, and thereby His exclusive right to be worshipped alone.

• When we say all “sovereignty” belongs to Allah, this means every single king and kingdom from the past, present, and future falls under the dominion of Allah. This further reiterates His greatness and why He Alone is deserving of worship.

• Allah is the only True Creator and King over everything and everyone. He is a Just King, who has no partners, rivals or helpers; and He does not even need any of these. And so, He is deserving of praise after affirming His sovereignty.

• Since Allah is “over all things All-Powerful,” it only makes sense that the kingdom and the praise belong exclusively to Him.

• Sometimes a person may have sovereignty, but it is a confined, fickle authority that will inevitably end. Here, we affirm at the end of this dhikr that Allah’s sovereignty is real as He has full control over everyone and everything.

• Since this dhikr is the greatest statement that a person can make, it is befitting that it contains the greatest rewards. The rewards it confers are unparalleled:

Reward for freeing 10 slaves;
100 good deeds;
100 sins erased;
Protection from Shayṭān for that day;
Being from those who did the best deeds that day.

• In the past, people had to save for a long time to be able to purchase one slave, yet Allah has promised us the reward of freeing 10 slaves everyday if we say this dhikr a 100 times!

• The reward of freeing one slave, in itself, is priceless: The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever frees a Muslim slave, Allah will free every limb of his body for every limb (of the slave’s body that he freed) from the Hellfire, including his private parts” (Bukhārī).

**Action Points**

• لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ is the greatest statement ever uttered, the foundation of faith and the cornerstone of existence itself.

• Allah created the heavens, the earth and everything in between them for this fundamental truth: that He Alone is worshipped, loved and obeyed. He sent messengers and revealed books for this very same reason: so that He alone is worshipped. For this same reason, the Day of Judgement will be established, the creation will be gathered and questioned, and then driven either into Hell or Paradise.

• لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ is the best form of remembering Allah (dhikr). It outweighs the seven heavens and the seven earths. On the Day of Judgement, it will outweigh all sins on the Scale. When uttered sincerely, it leaves the realms of this earth and ascends to the Magnificent Throne of Allah. It is the guarantor of one’s ultimate success: its utterer will be saved from Hell, and will be guaranteed Paradise and the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ.

• Recite this dhikr with the presence of the heart.

• Try to remove the love and awe of other things from your heart as you repeat this dhikr. Focus your heart on Allah alone. Try to push away the whispers of Shayṭān and worldly distractions from your mind. Say to yourself: The Only One who deserves my complete love, awe, submission, obedience and worship is Allah. He has no partners; there is none who can compete with Him, and none like Him. Absolute dominion, power and praise is for Allah Alone.

• As you are repeating this dhikr, feel a sense of peace and tranquillity: you live in a world which is controlled by Allah, and everything in it belongs to Him.

• True kingdom belongs to Allah alone. All the leaders and kings in this life all fall within the kingdom and dominion of Allah. Therefore, don’t feel scared of worldly kings, authorities and leaders. Always remember that you have the King of kings by your side, so long as you obey Him.

• From all the morning and evening adhkār, this dhikr takes the most amount of time. However, its reward and benefits are too great to miss out on, so ensure you say this every day and aim to be amongst the best of people.

• Imām al-Nawawī (raḥimahullāh) writes, “The general meaning of the ḥadīth indicates that the reward mentioned may be attained by the one who repeats this dhikr one hundred times in a day — whether he repeats it consecutively (in one setting); or at different times in several sessions; or he recites some of it at the beginning of the day and some at the end of the day. However, it is best to recite it consecutively at the beginning of the day, so that it will be a protection for him throughout the full day.”

• Feel gratitude in your heart for Allah’s generosity, as the rewards for this dhikr are immense.
• يبدأ هذا الذكر بكلمة التوحيد، وهي أعظم كلمة تُقال؛ لأنها تثبت الحقيقة الكبرى: وحدانية الله سبحانه وتعالى.

• قال رسول الله ﷺ:
«خيرُ ما قلتُ أنا والنبيّون من قبلي:
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ» (الموطّأ).
بهذا الذكر نُقرّ بأن الله وحده هو المستحق للعبادة. أي أن نكون عبيدًا لله وحده، لا لغيره من الكائنات أو المعتقدات أو الأغراض أو الشهوات. وبه نُقرّ بربوبية الله على الخلق أجمعين، وبالتالي حقّه الخالص في العبادة.

• وعندما نقول إن الملك كله لله، فهذا يعني أن كل ملكٍ وملكوت — في الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل — هو داخل تحت سلطان الله. وهذا يُؤكّد عظمته، ويبيّن سبب استحقاقه وحده للعبادة.
• الله هو الخالق الحقّ وحده، وهو الملك على كل شيء وعلى كل أحد. وهو الملك العدل، الذي لا شريك له ولا ندّ ولا معين، ولا يحتاج إلى شيء من ذلك أصلًا. ولذا، فهو مستحق للحمد بعد أن نُقِرّ بملكه وسلطانه.
• وبما أن الله هو «على كل شيء قدير»، فمن الطبيعي أن يكون الملك والحمد كلّه له وحده.
• قد يملك أحدٌ من البشر شيئًا من السلطان، لكنه سلطان محدود، متقلّب، زائل. أما هذا الذكر العظيم، فيُثبِت في نهايته أن ملك الله حقيقيّ، دائم، لأنه سبحانه المتصرف في كل أحد، القاهر فوق كل شيء.
• وبما أن هذا الذكر هو أعظم كلمة يمكن للإنسان أن يقولها، فقد كان من المناسب أن يكون ثوابه أعظم الثواب. وثوابه لا يُضاهى:
– ثواب عتق 10 عبيد،
– تُكتب له 100 حسنة،
– وتُمحى عنه 100 سيئة،
– وتكون له حماية من الشيطان يومه ذلك،
– ويكون من أفضل أهل ذلك اليوم عملًا.
• وفي السابق، كان الناس يدّخرون زمنًا طويلًا ليشتروا عبدًا واحدًا فيعتقوه، ومع ذلك وعدنا الله بثواب عتق 10 عبيد يوميًا إذا قلنا هذا الذكر 100 مرة!
• وثواب عتق العبد الواحد لا يُقدَّر بثمن. قال النبي ﷺ:
«مَن أعتق رقبةً مسلمة؛ أعتق اللهُ بكل عضوٍ منها عضوًا منه من النار، حَتَّى فَرْجَهُ بِفَرْجِهِ» (البخاري).

نقاط العمل
• لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ هي أعظم كلمة نطق بها اللسان، وهي أساس الإيمان وركن الوجود كله.
• خلق الله السماوات والأرض وما بينهما لهذه الحقيقة العظمى: أن يُعبد وحده، ويُحب وحده، ويُطاع وحده. وأنزل الكتب، وبعث الرسل للسبب نفسه: أن يُعبد وحده لا شريك له. ومن أجل هذا أيضًا تقوم القيامة، ويُحشر الخلق، ويُسألون، ثم يُساقون إمّا إلى الجنة وإمّا إلى النار.
• لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ هي أفضل الذكر. تفوق السماوات السبع والأرضين السبع وزنًا. وفي يوم القيامة، ستفوق جميع الذنوب في الميزان. وإذا قالها العبد بصدق، تجاوزت حدود الدنيا وصعدت إلى العرش العظيم. وهي مفتاح الفلاح والنجاة: تُنقذ قائلها من النار، وتضمن له الجنة، والشفاعة.
• ردد هذا الذكر بقلبٍ حاضر.
• حاول أن تُخلي قلبك من محبة وهيبة كل شيء سوى الله أثناء ترديده. وجّه قلبك كلّه إلى الله وحده. وادفع وساوس الشيطان وشواغل الدنيا عن ذهنك. وقل لنفسك: إن الذي يستحق محبتي وخضوعي وطاعتي وعبادتي كلها هو الله وحده. لا شريك له، لا نظير ولا ندّ. الملك والقدرة والحمد كلّها له وحده.
• أثناء تكرار هذا الذكر، استشعر الطمأنينة: فأنت تعيش في عالمٍ بيد الله، وكل ما فيه ملكٌ له.
• الملك الحقّ لله وحده. كل الملوك والزعماء داخلون في ملكه وتحت قهره. فلا تخف من سلطان الناس إذا أطعتَ سلطان رب الناس. تذكّر دائمًا أنك تملك معك ملك الملوك ما دمت تطيعه.
• هذا الذكر هو أطول أذكار الصباح والمساء من حيث الوقت، لكن ثوابه عظيم للغاية، فلا تضيّعه. احرص على قوله يوميًا، وكن من أهل الفضل.
• قال الإمام النووي رحمه الله:
“وظاهر إطلاق الحديث أنّه يُحَصِّل هذا الأجرَ المذكور في هذا الحديث، من قال هذا التهليل مائة مرة في يومه، سواء قاله متوالية أو ‌متفرقة ‌في ‌مجالس، أو بعضها أول النهار وبعضها آخره، لكن الأفضل أن يأتي بها متوالية في أول النهار؛ ليكون حرزًا له في جميع نهاره”.
• اشعر بالامتنان لله في قلبك لعظيم كرمه، فإن ثواب هذا الذِّكر كبير.

• We follow this up by saying ‘Alḥamdulillāh’. Through this phrase, we praise Allah in a complete manner which encompasses praising Him (1) for the qualities that He possesses, and (2) for the good He has done for us.

• The wording structure of this duʿā’ means that “I am praising Allah for allowing me to glorify Him”.

• It also carries the meaning of: “I am able to glorify Allah due to the qualities He has which are deserving of Praise, that allowed me to do this”.

• The number quoted in the ḥadīth (100 times) is the minimum to achieve the rewards associated with it. However, a person is allowed, and should aim to do more than this. This is different to other acts of worship which have a fixed number e.g. number of rakʿāt in ṣalāh.

**Virtues**

This phrase (سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِه) is one of the most beloved phrases to Allah, and it carries many virtues, including:

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever says سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِه, a palm-tree will be planted for him in Paradise” (Tirmidhī).

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, “What is the most virtuous speech?” He said, “What Allah selected for His angels or for His servants: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ” (Muslim).

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever find it difficult to struggle at night (i.e. stand in prayer at night), or is stingy to spend his wealth (in the path of Allah), or is cowardly to fight the enemy — then he should abundantly say سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ, for it is more beloved to Allah than a mountain of gold which he spends in the path of Allah” (Ṭabarānī).

• The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When death approached Allah’s Prophet Nūḥ (ʿalayhis-salām), he said to his son: ‘… (I command you with) سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ . It is the prayer of everything, and with it the creation is given sustenance’” (Ḥākim).

• This ḥadīth means that the entire universe - including the angels, the mountains, and trees - praises and glorifies Allah, as Allah says, “The seven heavens, the earth, and all those in them glorify Him. There is not a single thing that does not glorify His praises—but you cannot comprehend their glorification. He is indeed Most Forbearing, All-Forgiving” (17:44). This tasbīḥ is the key of them receiving the provisions of Allah.

**Action Points**

• Ponder over the deep meanings of this dhikr. When saying **‘SubḥānAllah’**, think about how Allah is perfect: free from all the partners people associate with Him, free from oppression, evil and injustice.

• When saying **‘bi-ḥamdihī’**, think about: the (1) blessings Allah has given you and (2) the Perfect Names and the qualities of Allah. Think of the greatness of Allah, His majesty, His generosity, His nobility, His power etc.

• The special phrasing of this dhikr means that you have to realise that you doing tasbīḥ of Allah is a gift from Him — and this requires you to thank and praise Him (ḥamd). Each time you glorify Him, you praise Him for allowing you to glorify Him. It is a never-ending cycle, as you can never praise Allah enough.

• This dhikr only takes a few minutes to say. By utilising a few minutes of your morning and evening to say this powerful dhikr, your sins will be forgiven and you will be from the people with the best deeds.
• نبدأ هذا الذكر بقول: «سُبحانَ الله»، وهي عبارة تُنزِّه الله تعالى بنفي أي نقص عنه. فالله منزَّهٌ عن كل عيب. وهو سبحانه وتعالى لا شريك له ولا ند، وله كل وجه من أوجه الكمال، وأفعاله خالصة من الشر.
• ونتبع ذلك بقولنا: «وبِحَمده». وبهذه العبارة، نحمد الله حمدًا كاملًا يشمل حمده:
(١) على ما هو عليه من الصفات، و(٢) على ما أسداه إلينا من الخير.
• صيغة هذه الذِّكْر تحتمل معنى جميلا: "أحمد الله على أن أعانني وقدرني على تسبيحه".
• ويحمل أيضًا معنى: "أنا قادرٌ على تسبيح الله لما يتصف به من صفاتٍ عظيمة تستحق الحمد؛ وهذه الصفات هي التي جعلتني أستطيع تسبيحه".
• والعدد المذكور في الحديث (100 مرة) هو الحد الأدنى لنيل الثواب الوارد فيه. ومع ذلك، يُشرَع للمسلم بل ينبغي له أن يزيد على هذا العدد. وهذا يختلف عن العبادات التي لها عددٌ محدد، مثل عدد ركعات الصلاة.
الفضائل
إن هذه العبارة (سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ) من أحبّ الكلمات إلى الله، وتحمل فضائل عديدة، منها:
• قال رسول الله ﷺ:
«مَن قال: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، غُرِسَت له نخلةٌ في الجنة» (الترمذي).
• وسُئل رسول الله ﷺ: أيُّ الكلامِ أفضل؟
فقال: «ما اصطفاه الله لملائكته أو لعباده: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ» (مسلم).
• وقال رسول الله ﷺ:
«من هالهُ الليلُ أن يكابِدَهُ، أو بخِل بالمالِ أن يُنفقَه، أو جَبُنَ عن العدوِّ أن يقاتلَه، فَلْيُكْثِرْ مِنْ (سبحانَ الله وبحمدِه)؛ فإنها ‌أحبُّ ‌إلى ‌الله ‌من ‌جَبَلِ ‌ذَهَبٍ ‌ينفقهُ في سبيل اللهِ عز وجل». (الطبراني).
• وقال ﷺ: «إنَّ نوحًا لما حَضَرَته الوفاةُ دعا ابنَيهِ فقال: ...
وآمركما بسبحانَ الله وبحمدِه، ‌فإنها ‌صلاةُ ‌كلِّ ‌شيء، وبها يُرزَقُ كلُّ شيء» (الحاكم).
هذا الحديث يعني أن الكون كله - بما فيه من ملائكة وجبال وأشجار - يسبح الله ويحمده، كما قال تعالى: ﴿تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَكِنْ لَا تُحِيطُونَ بِتَسْبِيحَهُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْحَلِيمُ الْغَفُورُ﴾ (الإسراء: ٤٤). وهذا التسبيح مفتاح حصولهم على رزق الله.

• تأمّل في المعاني العميقة لهذا الذكر. فعند قولك: «سُبحانَ الله»، استحضر كمال الله المطلق: تنزُّهه عن الشركاء الذين يجعلهم الناس معه، وتنزُّهه عن الظلم والشر والجور.
• وعند قولك: «وبحمده»، فكّر في:
(1) النِّعم التي أنعم الله بها عليك،
(2) والأسماء الحسنى والصفات الكاملة لله تعالى.
وتأمّل عظمة الله، وجلاله، وكرمه، وقوته، وسلطانه.
• إن صياغة هذا الذكر الخاصة تعني أن عليك أن تدرك أن تسبيحك لله هبة منه، وهذا يستوجب عليك شكره وحمده. ففي كل مرة تسبّحه فيها، تحمده على سماحه لك بتسبيحه.
إنها دائرة لا تنتهي، لأنك لن تستطيع أن تحمد الله كما ينبغي له.
• هذا الذكر لا يستغرق إلا دقائق معدودة. وباستغلال دقائق من صباحك ومسائك لقول هذا الذكر العظيم، تُغفَر ذنوبك، وتكون من أهل الأعمال الفاضلة الرفيعة.

**Brief Commentary**

• Āyah al-Kursī begins with ‘Allah’. According to many scholars, ‘Allah’ is the Greatest Name of Allah, and is the most frequently mentioned Name in the Qur’ān, appearing over 2,500 times.

• ‘Allah’ refers to **the One who is adored and worshipped**. Thus, the āyah begins by establishing the greatest truth: that Allah is the sole being that deserves to be worshipped.

• It then describes Allah as the “**Ever Living (al-Ḥayy)**”: The one who has all the attributes of life in the most complete form e.g. hearing, seeing, knowing, power etc. Al-Ḥayy is the one who will never die, and nor is He touched by even the ‘smaller death’ (sleep). His life is absolutely perfect, and He alone gives life.

• Since He alone is the absolute source of life, and possesses the attributes of perfect life, it only makes sense that He alone is “**The Sustainer of all** (al-Qayyūm)”. Al-Qayyūm is the one who maintains all; but needs none to maintain Him. Everything within the heavens and the earth is dependent on Allah and needs Him to sustain and manage their existence. He, however, is completely Self-Sustaining, and independent of any of His creation.

• Whoever needs to sleep will always be deficient in maintaining and sustaining the affairs of His subjects. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Allah does not sleep, and it is not befitting that He should sleep” (Muslim). Not only does Allah not sleep, he does not even feel drowsy: ‘**Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep**.’ This is also very comforting, as we do not need to worry about the heavens and planets falling on us, or to worry that He may be unavailable when we may need Him.

• ‘**To Him Alone belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth**’: Allah is the Master and Owner of all. He is the Owner and King of everything in the heavens and the earth. **Nothing happens in this world except that Allah has willed it**. Everything is subject to His will and decree. We are only custodians of what we have been given, not the true owners.

Once we firmly believe that what we own is only a loan from Allah for a limited time, we will feel content and humble. We will empty our hearts from greed and stop chasing worldly pleasures. Whether we are tested with wealth or poverty, our hearts will remain attached to the True Owner of the heavens and the earth: Allah. This part of the verse also grants believers solace, as they know who to turn to for all their needs.

• After mentioning His ownership and complete dominion, Allah says, ‘**Who is it that can intercede with Him except with His permission?**’ This further explains Allah’s oneness and uniqueness. No one even comes close to sharing His power and will. Only those He will give permission to on the Day of Judgement (such as our beloved Messenger ﷺ) will be allowed to intercede.

• ‘**He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills**’: Allah’s knowledge is not just limited to the present. It also encompasses the past, and extends to the future.

This belief should fill our hearts with awe and fear, as everything we do is within Allah’s knowledge. Likewise, it should make us content with our decree, as it was decreed by the One Who knows how things will develop in the future.

• All the technological advancements that we see now are only due to Allah granting us the permission to encompass this knowledge. Thus, we should always remain humble, and thankful to Allah.

• We are then introduced to one of Allah’s greatest creations, allowing us to ponder on Allah’s greatness: ‘**His Kursī (footstool) extends over the heavens and the earth**’: The Prophet ﷺ said, “The seven heavens in comparison to the Kursī is nothing but like a ring thrown in a desert, and the excellence of the Throne of Allah over the Kursī is like the excellence of that desert over that ring.” (Bayhaqī)

Our limited minds are unable to comprehend the Greatness of Allah. However we can attempt to appreciate His Greatness by pondering over His creation. When we ponder on the greatness of Allah’s creation such as the heavens, the earth, His Kursī and His Majestic Throne, and then realise our own inability to comprehend them due to their greatness, we arive at the most important realisation: how Great must their Creator be!

• By knowing this, it is then no surprise that ‘**their preservation tires Him not**’ as the heavens and the earth are insignificant in size to Him. Allah cares for and provides sustenance to billions of beasts and creatures: those that crawl in the land, those that swim in the ocean, and those that fly in the sky. And yet, He never becomes tired.

• The ending ‘**And He is the Most High, the Magnificent**’ perfectly summarises the verse, as the whole verse is describing the greatness of Allah. These are two of the majestic Names of Allah. Allah is Great in Himself. All of His Names and Attributes are great and most perfect. Allah is Great in His might, and Great in His knowledge. Everything that He does is Great. Allah is far, far above any weakness or defect. No one can overpower Him, and He is Greater than anything we can imagine.

**Benefits & Action Points**

*The Greatest Ayah*

• The main theme of all of the morning and evening adhkār is **tawḥīd** (the Oneness of Allah), and at the forefront is Āyah al-Kursī.

• Āyah al-Kursī is the greatest verse of the Qur’ān. This is because it beautifully describes who Allah is. **The most majestic verses in the Qur’ān are the verses that talk about Allah**, as there is no topic of discussion which is more grandiose, more majestic and more beautiful than Allah (ʿazza wa jall). The āyah starts off with one word ‘Allah’; and then goes on to mention 20+ of Allah’s Names and Attributes.

• Āyah al-Kursī is a gift to us from Allah, our Creator and Master. We were created to worship and know Allah; and in just a few lines He has perfectly summarised to us who He is, including His Greatness, His Power, His Knowledge, His Kingdom, and **ultimately His Oneness**. There is nothing on earth that will teach us about Allah better than this āyah.

• lbn al-Jawzī (raḥimahullāh) writes, “By Allah, if an intelligent believer recited Sūrah al-Hadīd, the end of Sūrah al-Hashr, Ayah al-Kursī, and Surah al-Ikhlās with **deep thought** and **contemplation**, his heart would burst open out of the awe (of Allah), and he would be baffled by His Greatness.”

• Āyah al-Kursī contains the **Greatest Names of Allah** (al-Ḥayy and al-Qayyūm), as mentioned by the Prophet ﷺ (Abū Dāwūd). When we ask Allah by these Names, our duʿas are accepted.

• Āyah al-Kursī has a tongue and two lips that glorify Allah at the leg of the Allah’s Throne (as reported in Aḥmad).

**Recite it 8x a Day**

• Memorise this verse and recite it every day. It is sunnah to recite Āyah al-Kursī every day:

1) **Before sleeping**: “When you lie down in your bed, recite Āyah al-Kursī from beginning to end; a guardian angel will stay by you and no devil will approach you, until you wake up in the morning” (Bukhārī).

2) **After every farḍ prayer**: “Whoever reads [Āyah al-Kursī] after every obligatory prayer, there is nothing that will prevent him from entering Paradise except death” (Nasā’ī).

3) **In the morning and evening**: “Reading Āyah al-Kursī from Sūrah al-Baqarah. If you read it in the morning, you will be protected from us (i.e. the devils) till the evening. And if you read it in the evening, you will be protected from us (i.e. the devils) till the morning” (Ḥākim).

• By reading this verse a multiple number of times daily, we refresh our knowledge of Allah, renew our īmān in Him, and affirm His Oneness.

**A Powerful Source of Protection**

• A great portion of the morning and evening duʿās revolve around asking Allah for protection. By starting off the adhkār with Āyah al-Kursī, we begin to appreciate the **greatness of Allah**. This should help us to be more attentive and optimistic when reciting the remainder of the adhkār.

• Āyah al-Kursī is one of the strongest means of protection from the devils. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “In Sūrah al-Baqarah, there is a verse which is the best verse of the Qur’ān. **It is never recited in a house except that the Shaytān leaves**: it is Āyah al-Kursī” (Ḥākim).

**Living by Āyat al-Kursī**

• By knowing that the entire universe belongs to Allah and that He possesses the ultimate power and knowledge, we **rely** only on Him. Knowing that He always takes care of us and is the Perfect Manager of the entire creation makes us **love** Him and place our **hope** in Him.

• Since He is the Magnificent, we are in **awe** of Him and always **humble** ourselves to Him. He is the Only one who possesses all of these unique attributes, so we **submit** ourselves to Him and **worship Him** Alone.
**آية الكرسي**

تبدأ آية الكرسي باسم «الله». وقد ذكر كثير من العلماء أن اسم «الله» هو الاسم الأعظم لله تعالى، وهو أكثر الأسماء ورودًا في القرآن، حيث ورد أكثر من (2500) مرة.

و«الله» هو المعبود المحبوب الذي تُوجَّه إليه العبادة وحده، ولهذا افتتحت الآية بأعظم حقيقة: أن الله هو وحده الذي يستحق أن يُعبد.

ثم تصف الآية الله بأنه «الحيّ»، أي: الحي حياةً كاملة تتضمن جميع صفات الكمال من السمع والبصر والعلم والقدرة وغيرها.
الحيّ هو الذي لا يموت أبدًا، ولا يمسه حتى "الموت الأصغر (النوم)". حياته كاملة مطلقة، وهو وحده الذي يهب الحياة.

وبما أنّه وحده المتصف بالحياة الكاملة في ذاته سبحانه، وهو خالق الحياة وواهبها لمخلوقاته، فهو وحده «القيّوم»: القائم بنفسه، المقيم لغيره.
القيّوم هو الذي يقوم على أمر كل شيء، ويدبّر شؤون كل مخلوق، وهو لا يحتاج إلى من يقوم عليه. كل ما في السماوات والأرض قائم بالله ومحتاج إليه، بينما هو سبحانه الغنيّ عن كل خلقه.
ومن كان يحتاج إلى النوم فهو ناقص في حفظه وتدبيره لشؤون من يعتمدون عليه، أما الله فلا ينام ولا يعتريه نعاس.
قال النبي ﷺ:
«إن الله لا ينام، ولا ينبغي له أن ينام» (رواه مسلم).
فالله لا تأخذه حتى الغفوة اليسيرة، ولهذا قال تعالى: «لا تأخذه سِنة ولا نوم».
وهذا يمنح المؤمن الطمأنينة، إذ لا يخشى أن يختل نظام السماوات، أو أن يغيب ربه عنه لحظة.

ثم قال تعالى: «له ما في السماوات وما في الأرض»، أي أن الله هو المالك والمهيمن الحقيقي على كل ما في الوجود.
فهو المالك والملك لكل شيء، ولا يحدث شيء إلا بمشيئته وإرادته.
نحن في الحقيقة مجرد مستخلفين فيما بأيدينا، ولسنا أصحاب الملك الحقيقيين.
وحين يدرك المؤمن أن ما عنده إنما هو أمانة من الله، يرضى ويقنع، ويزهد في الدنيا، ويعلَق قلبه بمالك الملك سبحانه.

بعد ذكر الملك المطلق لله، قال: «من ذا الذي يشفع عنده إلا بإذنه».
فهذا يبيّن وحدانية الله المطلقة، إذ لا أحد يستطيع الشفاعة عنده إلا بإذنه.
حتى النبي ﷺ لا يشفع يوم القيامة إلا بعد أن يأذن له الله، وهذا تأكيد أن المُلك كله بيد الله وحده.

ثم قال: «يعلم ما بين أيديهم وما خلفهم، ولا يحيطون بشيء من علمه إلا بما شاء»، أي أن علم الله شامل لكل الأزمنة: الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل.
فينبغي أن يملأ هذا الإيمان قلوبنا خشيةً ومهابة، لأن الله يعلم كل ما نفعل.
وفي الوقت نفسه يبعث فينا الرضا بالقدر، لأنه صادر عمن يعلم ما هو الأصلح لنا.

كل ما وصل إليه البشر من تقدم علمي وتقني إنما هو بإذن الله، وبما مكّنهم منه من العلم. ولذلك يجب أن نظل متواضعين شاكرين.

ثم يبيّن الله عظمته في خلقه: «وسع كرسيه السماوات والأرض».
قال النبي ﷺ: «ما السماوات السبع بالنسبة إلى الكرسي إلا كحلقة في فلاة، وفضل العرش على الكرسي كفضل تلك الفلاة على تلك الحلقة» (رواه البيهقي).
وهذا يوضح لنا عظمة الله التي تفوق تصور العقول. فكلما تأملنا في عظمة خلقه - كالسماوات والأرض والكرسي والعرش - أدركنا عظمة الخالق سبحانه.

ولهذا قال تعالى: «ولا يؤوده حفظهما»، أي لا يُثقله ولا يُتعبه حفظ السماوات والأرض، رغم ضخامتهما.
فالله هو الذي يرزق ويدبّر شؤون جميع المخلوقات في البر والبحر والسماء، ومع ذلك لا يعجزه شيء ولا يصيبه تعب.

وتختم الآية بقوله: «وهو العليّ العظيم»، وهما اسمان جليلان يلخصان معنى الآية كلها.
فكل الآية تتحدث عن عظمة الله وعلوّه وكماله.
فهو العظيم في ذاته، العظيم في أسمائه وصفاته وأفعاله، المنزه عن كل نقص وعيب، ولا شيء يعلوه، ولا أحد يشاركه سلطانه.

أعظم آية في القرآن
الموضوع الرئيس لجميع أذكار الصباح والمساء هو التوحيد، وفي المقدمة آية الكرسي.
وهي أعظم آية في القرآن لأنها تصف الله وصفًا كاملًا، وتجمع أسماءه وصفاته العظيمة.
لا توجد آيات أرفع شأنًا من الآيات التي تتحدث عن الله سبحانه، لأنها تتناول أعظم موضوع على الإطلاق.
تبدأ الآية باسم «الله»، ثم تذكر أكثر من عشرين من أسمائه وصفاته.

قال ابن الجوزي رحمه الله: «واللهِ لو أنَّ مؤمنًا عاقلًا قرأ ‌سورة ‌الحديد، وآخر سورة الحشر، وآية الكرسي، وسورة الإخلاص، بتفكيرٍ وتدبرٍ، لتصدّع من خشية الله قلبُه، وتحيّر في عظمة الله لُبُّه».

وتضم الآية الاسمين الأعظمين لله: «الحيّ القيّوم»، كما في الحديث، ومن دعا الله بهما أُجيبت دعوته.

وقد رُوِيَ أن لآية الكرسي «لسانًا وشفتين تسبّحان عند ساق العرش» (رواه أحمد).

**اقرأها ثماني مرات يوميًّا**
قبل النوم:
قال ﷺ: «إذا أويتَ إلى فراشك فاقرأ آية الكرسي، فإنك لا يزال عليك من الله حافظ، ولا يقربك شيطان حتى تصبح» (البخاري).
بعد كل صلاة فريضة:
«من قرأها دبر كل صلاة مكتوبة، لم يمنعه من دخول الجنة إلا الموت» (النسائي).

في الصباح والمساء
«من قالها حين يمسي أجير منا حتى يصبح، ومن قالها حين يصبح ‌أجير ‌منا ‌حتى ‌يمسي» (الطبراني).

بقراءتها يوميًا، نجدد معرفتنا بالله، ونقوّي إيماننا به، ونؤكد توحيدنا له.
مصدر قوي للحماية
جزءٌ كبير من أذكار الصباح والمساء يدور حول طلب الحماية من الله.
ومن خلال البدء بالأذكار بآية الكرسي، نبدأ في استشعار عظمة الله، مما يساعدنا على أن نكون أكثر خشوعًا وتفاؤلًا عند تلاوة بقية الأذكار.
آية الكرسي من أعظم أسباب الحفظ من الشياطين.
يروى أن النبي ﷺ قال: «ما من بيت تقرأ فيه سورة البقرة إلا ‌خرج ‌منه ‌الشيطان» (الدارمي).
فبقراءتها في الأذكار، نستحضر عظمة الله، ونتقوّى باليقين.

**العمل بآية الكرسي**
إذا علمنا أن الملك كله لله، وأنه وحده ذو القدرة والعلم، فإننا:
نتوكل عليه وحده، ونحبّه ونرجوه، ونهابه ونخضع له، ونعبده وحده، لأنه العظيم المتفرّد بالعلو والكمال.

Ubayy b. Kaʿb (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform Witr with three rakʿahs. عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ، كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْأُولَى بِ {سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى}، وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِ {قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ}، وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِ {قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ}، وَيَقْنُتُ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ قَالَ عِنْدَ فَرَاغِهِ: سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، يُطِيلُ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ .
