Muʿādh b. ʿAbdullāh b. Khubayb, narrated from his father (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu), who said: “We went out on a rainy and extremely dark night, looking for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so that he could lead us in ṣalāh.” He said: “So I met him and he ﷺ said: ‘Say’ but I did not say anything. Then he ﷺ said: ‘Say.’ But I did not say anything. He ﷺ said: ‘Say.’ So I said: ‘What should I say?’ He ﷺ said: “Recite Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ and al-Muʿawwidhatayn (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah al-Nās) three times in the morning and the evening: It will suffice you in all respects.” (Tirmidhī 3575)

**‘It will suffice you in all respects’** means it will protect you from all evil.

Ubayy b. Kaʿb (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported that he had a vessel in which he kept dates. He found that its quantity was decreasing. So he kept guard on it one night and saw a creature that resembled an adolescent boy. Ubayy greeted him and he returned his greeting. Ubayy then asked him, “What are you, a jinnī or a human?” He replied, “A jinnī.” So he said to him, “Show me your hand.” So he showed him his hand, and it looked like a dog’s paw with dog’s fur. He said, “This is how the jinn are created. The jinn know that there is no one amongst them who is stronger than me.”

Ubayy asked him, “What caused you to do what you did?” He replied, “We heard that you are a man who loves charity, and we came to take our share from your food.’” Ubayy asked him, “What will protect us from you?” He replied, “Reciting Āyah al-Kursī from Sūrah al-Baqarah [i.e. the verse above]. If you recite it in the morning, you will be protected from us till the evening. And if you recite it in the evening, you will be protected from us till the morning.”

Ubayy said: “The following morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The evil one spoke the truth.” (Ḥākim 2064)

Abān b. ʿUthmān narrated from ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) who mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There is no servant who says [the above] three times every morning and evening, except that nothing will harm him.”

Abān himself had been afflicted with a form of paralysis, so the man began to look at him. Abān said to him: “Why do you look at me? The ḥadīth is as I have narrated it to you, except that I did not recite it one day, and Allah brought about His decree upon me.” (Tirmidhī 3388)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever says [the above] three times (in the evening), they will not be afflicted by a sudden calamity till the morning. And whoever says it three times in the morning, they will not be afflicted with a sudden calamity until the evening.” (Abū Dāwūd 5088)

رسول الله ﷺ فرمايلي دي: "هر څوک چې دا کلمات (په ماښام) کې درې ځلې ووايي، تر سهار پورې به پرې ناڅاپي مصیبت نه راځي. او هر څوک چې دا سهار کې درې ځلې ووايي، تر ماښام پورې به پرې ناڅاپي مصیبت نه راځي." (ابو داوود 5088)

**Brief Commentary**

• We begin this duʿā’ by calling Allah through His Name: al-Ḥayy: “**The Ever Living**.” Allah’s ‘living’ is very different to our own living, as our living contains periods of illness, tiredness, sleep, and many other deficiencies, including having a beginning and end. However, Allah has the most perfect form of life, as He was always present and will always remain. His life is not interrupted by any periods of sleep nor loss of power.

• When we call upon Allah ‘al-Ḥayy’ (the Ever Living), we should realise we are calling the Being who will always be present and available to help.

• We then call upon Allah through His Name ‘al-Qayyūm’, **The Sustainer of all**. Al-Qayyūm is the one who Himself is Self-Sustaining, and at the same time sustains His creation by creating them, managing their affairs, providing for them, and protecting them. He is the one who keeps everything in place e.g. planet orbitals, keeping the earth and the heavens intact etc.

• The Sustainer of all (‘Qayyūm’) implies that Allah is complete in terms of His ability to carry out actions, therefore we call upon Him as He is always there, and fully capable of fulfilling our needs.

• The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said that Allah has the greatest name that if you ask Him with it and supplicate to Him with this name then He will surely accept your duʿā’ (Tirmidhi 3544). Many scholars have mentioned that this Greatest Name comprises the two Names at the beginning of this duʿā’: “**O Ever Living One, O Sustainer of all**.”

• We then ask Allah for “**assistance**” through His mercy. We don’t mention what we seek assistance for, but inferring from how the duʿā’ continues, it is understood that we are asking Him for assistance in **everything** good, since we cannot rely on ourselves for anything.

• We then ask Allah to rectify all our affairs. This includes matters related to this life and the hereafter.

• The last part of this duʿā’ sets in place a very important concept in our life, which is that we need Allah for everything in our lives. If we are left to ourselves even for a moment, then this would lead to our destruction.

• By realising we cannot depend on ourselves alone, we implement what we recite at least 17 times a day, which is the verse in Sūrah al-Fātiḥah: ‘Only You do we worship, and only in You do we seek assistance’.

**Action Points**

• Memorise the Greatest Names of Allah (‘Ḥayy’ and ‘Qayyūm’) and ensure you always call upon Allah with these Names whenever you supplicate to Him.

• Though very short, this duʿā’ carries great meanings, and must never be said without contemplation as you are setting your frame of mind for the rest of the day when you say this duʿā’.

• Whenever you say this duʿā’, always keep in mind that you will fail if you only depend on yourself, even if it is for one moment of your life.

• Once you say this duʿā’ from the bottom of your heart, you will feel at great ease and comfort as you have entrusted all your affairs to Allah; and inshāAllāh you will have a very successful morning or evening.

• Ibn al-Qayyim writes, “The Names ‘al-Ḥayy’ and ‘al-Qayyūm’ are extremely effective in getting one’s duʿās answered, and one’s calamities removed. Among the experiences of the wayfarers (on the path to Allah) that have been tried and found to be sound is that whoever accustoms himself to reciting: ‘O Living, O Sustainer of all! There is no god worthy of worship but You,’ shall be bequeathed life into his heart and mind because of it.”
لنډه خلاصه

• مونږ دا دعا د الله سبحانه وتعالی په نوم سره شروع کوو: الحی، یعنی "تل ژوندی". د الله ژوند زموږ د ژوند څخه ډېر مختلف دی، ځکه زموږ ژوند کمزوری دی، پکې ناروغي، ستړیا، خوب، او نورې نیمګړتیاوې شته، او زموږ ژوند پیل او پای لري. خو د الله ژوند تر ټولو کامل دی، هغه تل وو، او تل به وي. د هغه ژوند هیڅکله د خوب یا د ځواک د کمېدو له امله نه قطع کیږي.

• کله چې مونږ الله ته د الحی (تل ژوندي) په نوم دعا کوو، باید پوه شو چې موږ هغه ذات ته غږ کوو چې تل به موجود وي، او تل به زموږ د مرستې لپاره شتون لري.

• بیا مونږ الله ته د القیوم، یعنی "د ټولو ساتونکی" په نوم دعا کوو. القیوم هغه ذات دی چې پخپله خپلواک او بې نیازه دی، او د خپلو مخلوقاتو ساتنه کوي، هغوی پیدا کوي، د هغوی چارو ته انتظام ورکوي، روزي ورکوي، او ساتنه یې کوي. هغه ذات دی چې هر څه په خپل ځای ساتي، لکه د سیارو مدارونه، د ځمکې او اسمانونو نظام، او نور.

• القیوم دا مفهوم لري چې الله کامل قدرت لري، او هر وخت د خپلو بنده ګانو د اړتیاوو پوره کولو وس لري، نو مونږ باید یوازې هغه ته رجوع وکړو.

• رسول الله ﷺ فرمایلي دي چې الله یو داسې نوم لري چې که څوک ورسره دعا وکړي، نو الله به یقیناً هغه دعا قبوله کړي (ترمذي ۳۵۴۴). ډېری عالمانو ویلي دي چې دا عظیم نوم همدا دوه نومونه دي چې د دې دعا په پیل کې راځي: "یاحی، یا قیوم".

• بیا مونږ له الله څخه د هغه د رحمت له لارې مرسته غواړو. مونږ دا نه وایو چې څه ته اړتیا لرو، بلکې دا دعا پخپله یو عمومي درخواست دی، چې موږ له الله څخه په هر خیر کې مرسته غواړو، ځکه موږ نشو کولای چې یوازې پر ځان بسیا شو.

• بیا مونږ له الله څخه غواړو چې زموږ ټول چارو ته اصلاح ورکړي، چې دا د دنیا او آخرت ټولې چارې رانغاړي.

• د دې دعا وروستۍ برخه موږ ته یو ډېر مهم درس راکوي، او هغه دا چې موږ الله ته په هر څه کې محتاج یو. که الله موږ یوازې یو شېبه خپل حال ته پرېږدي، نو دا به زموږ د بربادۍ سبب شي.

• کله چې موږ دا حقیقت درک کړو چې موږ یوازې پر ځان بسیا نشو پاتې کېدای، نو موږ د سورت الفاتحه هغه آیت په عمل کې راولو چې مونږ یې په هره رکعت کې لږ تر لږه ۱۷ ځله وایو: "ایاک نعبد و ایاک نستعین" (یعنې: یواځې ستا بنده ګي کوو، او یواځې له تا مرسته غواړو).

د عمل ټکي

• که دا دعا په صدق او اخلاص سره وکړئ، نو یو عجیب سکون او راحت به احساس کړئ، ځکه مو خپل ټول چارې الله ته وسپارلې، او انشاء الله سهار یا ماښام به مو بریالی وي.

"د ‘الحی’ او ‘القیوم’ نومونه د دعا د قبلېدو او د ستونزو د حل لپاره ډېر اغېزناک دي. د هغو کسانو له تجربو څخه، چې د الله په لور د سفر په حال کې دي، امتحان شوې او تایید شوې ده، چې څوک دا ذکر عادت وګرځوي: 'یا حی یا قیوم، لا إله إلا أنت'، نو د دې له امله به الله **د هغه زړه او عقل ته حقیقي ژوند وروبخښي.""

**Brief Commentary**

• In this duʿā’, we seek Allah’s forgiveness and ask Him for wellbeing. This is a very important thing to ask Allah, as the Prophet ﷺ said, “Ask Allah for forgiveness and wellbeing, for no one is given anything after certainty that is better than wellbeing” (Tirmidhī 3557).

• When seeking Allah’s forgiveness, we are asking Him to forgive our sins and also wipe them off our record of deeds.

• Wellbeing in this life includes protection from physical, mental and spiritual ailments, including sins.

• When we ask for wellbeing, we are asking Allah to save us from all trials and tribulations, to strengthen our heart and our physical state so that we meet Him free from sins.

• We ask Allah for wellbeing ‘**in this world and the next**’. This encompasses all the states that we will be in.

• Wellbeing in the next life includes protection from the punishment of the grave, terrors of the Day of Judgement, and the torments of the Hellfire.

• To strengthen our request, we repeat it again, clarifying that we want wellbeing in our **religion, our life, our family, and wealth**.

• Wellbeing in our ‘**religion**’ means to be saved from committing sins or having incorrect beliefs; and ensuring our tawḥīd of Allah is complete.

• Wellbeing in our ‘**worldly affairs**’ means to be saved from calamities and errors that cause us to be heedless of the remembrance of Allah or completing acts of worship.

• Wellbeing in our ‘**family**’ means that we are all saved from trials and evil, including being saved from having problems with each other.

• Wellbeing in our ‘**wealth**’ is protection from it being lost or stolen; and to be saved from spending it in a way that displeases Allah.

• As a supplement to asking Allah for wellbeing, we also ask Him that He conceals our faults. This includes everything we dislike for others to know about us.

• We also ask Him to calm our fears, so that we can live peacefully.

• For the final part of the duʿā’, we ask Allah to protect us from all angles. This includes the four angles that Shayṭān promised to attack us from, as Allah mentions in the Qur’ān that Shayṭān says, “And then I shall come to them from in front of them, from behind them, from their right, and from their left…” (7:17).

• In addition to these four angles that Shayṭān promised to attack us from, we also ask Allah to protect us from the remaining two angles, which are from above us and from beneath us.

• The request to be saved from beneath us is a stronger request (i.e. the addition of ‘from being unexpectedly destroyed’ instead of just ‘beneath me’; and asking through Allah’s ‘Greatness’). This could refer to being swallowed up by the earth as a punishment by Allah, just as Pharaoh and Qārūn were destroyed, and will happen to people towards the end of times. It could also refer to unexpected difficulties. Thus, we are asking Allah to protect us from committing something that deserves for us to be punished in this life by Him.

**Action Points**

• Always ask Allah for forgiveness and wellbeing as it is from the greatest gifts you can receive.

• The whole duʿā’ is all-encompassing within the first few words. However, we repeat this request and detail our requirements further so that we show insistence in our request - and this is something that Allah loves.

• We also repeat and expand on this request so that we actually ponder over what we want and therefore request it from our heart.

• Shayṭān tries to attack you from all angles so ensure you are always aware of his plots, and ask Allah to protect you from him.
دلته موږ د دعا په دې جملو کې له الله (جل جلاله) څخه بښنه غواړو او د روغتیا (عافیت) غوښتنه کوو. دا یو ډېر مهم شی دی چې باید له الله څخه یې وغواړو، ځکه رسول الله ﷺ فرمایلي دي: "له الله څخه بښنه او عافیت وغواړئ، ځکه چې له یقین وروسته هېڅ یو نعمت د عافیت نه غوره نه دی" (ترمذي ۳۵۵۷).

کله چې موږ د الله څخه بښنه غواړو، نو دا معنی لري چې موږ ترېد هغه څخه غواړو چې زموږ ګناهونه وبښي او زموږ د اعمالو له صحیفې څخه یې پاک کړي.

عافیت په دې دنیا کې د جسمي، ذهني او روحاني آفتونو څخه ساتنه ده، چې پکې د ګناهونو څخه ساتنه هم شامله ده.

کله چې موږ د عافیت غوښتنه کوو، نو له الله څخه دا دعا کوو چې موږ له هر ډول ازموینو او ستونزو وساتي، زموږ زړونه او بدنونه قوي کړي، تر څو له ګناهونو څخه پاک ورهغه سره مخ شو.

موږ له الله څخه "په دې دنیا او آخرت کې" د عافیت غوښتنه کوو، چې دا زموږ د ټولو حالاتو پوښښ کوي.

د آخرت عافیت پدې کې شامل دی چې الله (جل جلاله) موږ د قبر له عذابه، د قیامت له وېرې، او د دوزخ له عذاب څخه وساتي.

زموږ د غوښتنې د پیاوړتیا لپاره، موږ دا بیا تکراروو، او روښانه کوو چې موږ عافیت زموږ په دین، ژوند، کورنۍ، او مال کې غواړو.

زموږ په دین کې عافیت دا دی چې له ګناهونو، ناسم عقایدو او د توحید له کمزورتیا څخه وساتل شو.

زموږ د دنیا په چارو کې عافیت دا دی چې له داسې آفتونو او خطاګانو وساتل شو چې موږ د الله له ذکر څخه غافل کړي یا د عبادت کولو مخه را ونیسي.

زموږ د کورنۍ عافیت دا دی چې زموږ د کورنۍ غړي له هر ډول ستونزو او شر څخه وساتل شي، او د یو بل سره ښې اړیکې ولرو.

زموږ د مال عافیت دا دی چې زموږ مال له ضایع کېدو، غلا کېدو او د الله په نافرمانۍ کې له لګولو څخه وساتل شي.

د عافیت د غوښتنې ترڅنګ، موږ له الله څخه غواړو چې هغه زموږ عیبونه پټ کړي، یعنې هغه شیان چې موږ نه غواړو نور یې وپېژني.

موږ له الله څخه دا هم غواړو چې هغه زموږ وېرې له منځه یوسي، تر څو موږ په سکون او آرامۍ سره ژوند وکړو.

د دعا په پای کې، موږ له الله څخه غواړو چې موږ له ټولو اړخونو څخه وساتي. دا هغه څلور اړخونه هم پکې شامل دي چې شیطان پرې د انسانانو د برید ژمنه کړې، لکه څنګه چې الله (جل جلاله) په قرآن کریم کې د شیطان دا وینا نقل کړې:

"بیا زه حتماً د دوی لوري ته له مخامخ، له شا، له ښي اړخ او له چپ اړخ څخه ورشم..." (الاعراف ۱۷).

د دې څلورو اړخونو سربېره، موږ له الله څخه غواړو چې له پورته او لاندې څخه هم موږ وساتي.

د لاندې اړخ څخه د ساتنې دعا د نورو اړخونو په پرتله پیاوړې ده، ځکه چې دلته موږ "له ناڅاپي هلاکت څخه" د الله د عظمت په واسطه پناه غواړو. دا ممکن اشاره وي د ځمکې له لوري د یو چا نړېدو ته، لکه څنګه چې فرعون او قارون هلاک شول، او د آخرت د نښو څخه به هم وي. دا ممکن د ناڅاپي ستونزو او مصیبتونو ته هم اشاره وي. نو موږ له الله څخه غواړو چې هغه موږ له داسې ګناهونو وساتي چې د دنیايي سزا لامل کېږي.


د عمل ټکي

تل له الله (جل جلاله) څخه د بښنې او عافیت غوښتنه وکړئ، ځکه دا د تر ټولو غوره نعمتونو څخه دی چې تاسو ته درکول کېدای شي.

د دعا ټولې معنا ګانې د لومړیو څو کلمو په دننه کې راځي، خو موږ دا غوښتنه بیا تکراروو او نور تفصیل ورکوو، تر څو خپل ټینګار څرګند کړو – او دا هغه څه دي چې الله (جل جلاله) یې خوښوي.

موږ دا دعا بیا تکراروو او پراخوو، تر څو موږ په رښتیا پوه شو چې څه غواړو، او له زړه څخه یې وغواړو.

شیطان هڅه کوي چې تاسو له هر اړخ څخه په ګناه کې واچوي، نو تل د هغه له مکرونو خبر اوسئ او له الله (جل جلاله) نه د هغه څخه د ساتنې دعا وکړئ.

Ubayy b. Kaʿb (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) reported that he had a vessel in which he kept dates. He found that its quantity was decreasing. So he kept guard on it one night and saw a creature that resembled an adolescent boy. Ubayy greeted him and he returned his greeting. Ubayy then asked him, “What are you, a jinnī or a human?” He replied, “A jinnī.” So he said to him, “Show me your hand.” So he showed him his hand, and it looked like a dog’s paw with dog’s fur. He said, “This is how the jinn are created. The jinn know that there is no one amongst them who is stronger than me.”

Ubayy asked him, “What caused you to do what you did?” He replied, “We heard that you are a man who loves charity, and we came to take our share from your food.’” Ubayy asked him, “What will protect us from you?” He replied, “Reciting Āyah al-Kursī from Sūrah al-Baqarah [i.e. the verse above]. If you recite it in the morning, you will be protected from us till the evening. And if you recite it in the evening, you will be protected from us till the morning.”

Ubayy said: “The following morning, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about what had happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The evil one spoke the truth.” (Ḥākim 2064)
اُبَي بن کعب (رضی الله عنه) څخه روايت دی چې هغه وايي ما سره يوه لوښی و چې په هغه کې می خرماوې ساتلې وی . هغه وليدل چې د خرماوو اندازه کمیږي. نو یوه شپه يې د هغېه ساتنه وکړه او يو مخلوق يې وليد چې د يو ځوان هلک په څېر ښکاره کېده. اُبَي هغه ته سلام وکړ، او هغه یې جواب ورکړ. بیا اُبَي ترې وپوښتل، "ته څوک یې، پيری که انسان؟" هغه ځواب ورکړ، "زه پيری یم." نو اُبَي ورته وويل، "ماته خپل لاس وښايه." هغه خپل لاس ورته وښود، او هغه د سپي د پنجې په څېر و، چې د سپي وېښته پرې وو. هغه وويل، "دا هغه ډول دی چې پيريان پيدا شوي دي. نو هغه وويل پيريان پوهیږي چې زموږ په منځ کې هېڅوک له ما څخه قوي نه دی اُبَي ترې وپوښتل، "تا ته د دې کار کولو څه سبب شو؟" هغه ځواب ورکړ، "موږ واورېدل چې ته داسې سړی يې چې خيرات خوښوي، نو موږ راغلو چې د خپل خوراک برخه واخلو." اُبَي ترې وپوښتل، "څه شی به موږ له تاسو څخه وساتي؟" هغه ځواب ورکړ، "د بقرې سورة آیت الکرسي لوستل. نو هغه وويل هو ، پيری وويل که تاسو دا په سهار ولولئ، نو د ماښام پورې به له موږ خوندي ياست. او که تاسو دا په ماښام ولولئ، نو د سهار پورې به له موږ خوندي ياست. اُبَي وویل: "د بلې ورځې سهار ما د رسول الله ﷺ خدمت ته همدغه حال ووایه چې څه پېښه شوې وه. رسول الله ﷺ وفرمايل، "شرير (شيطان) رښتيا وويل."
